How to Read Egyptian Hieroglyphs: a Step-by-step Guide to Teach Yourself, Collier, Mark Manley, Bill Mark and Manley, Bill Collier, British Museum Press

I bought this book ages ago as it was the required material for the EES hieroglyphics course, so I thought a good enough recommendation.

It is pretty accessible and does a nice gradual slide into more increasing complexity. The objective though is to help with monument reading which has some limited scope for other stuff. Mind you, while I don’t have a great head for languages and much of what I’ve read has been forgotten, some bits have stuck such as the markers for ‘Something said by…’ etc.

Has a number of useful transliterated words which have proved useful.

I remember you mentioning that to me before. I haven’t bought it yet. Thanks for the review. It sounds like a good one.
